History

Industrial Engineering has its antecedents in the old section of Administration and Planning, Academic Unit attached to the Department of Chemical Engineering. In the late 80 'changes its name to Industrial Management and is entrusted with the training of students of engineering in the areas of Engineering Economic Development and Evaluation Project, Foundations of Economics, Business Administration and deeper  lines . A deeper  line in Plant  Engineering and Management is developed and a second line in Business Administration and Economics.

In February 1999 (Act 003, Resolution 032 A)  the Faculty Council created and organized  the Industrial  Engineering Unit and assigned it to the Academic  Vice Dean.

In March, 1999 began to study the opening of the Industrial Engineering and manages its approval at the Faculty and Headquarters Bogota. For 001 of the Agreement on February 23 of 2000 (Act 001) of the University Academic Council authorized the opening of the undergraduate curriculum of Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at the National University of Colombia in Bogotá.

Objectives

The Industrial Engineering program aim consists on train professionals with scientific knowledge and practical tools to be able to perform successfully in organizational management of production and technology in companies producing goods or services. It seeks to train professionals with strong scientific basis, technical and methodological knowledge, capacity to research, invent, analyze and synthetize with critical, transmitting, leadership and human sense, social responsibility and employer mind , capable of:

• Generate new industries and facilitate the improvement of existing, and in result, the economic and social development of the country and  the region.
• Explore new principles and technologies for their adapting and developing, according to conditions and necessities of the country.
• Seek an adequate industrial use from nature resources of region and country.
• Put his knowledge for community service, represented mainly in small and medium industries without enough resources for its development, recognizing their important role as jobs generators,  corporate culture and as trainers of technics and professionals.
• Design, plan, organize, implement and control any productive system, to raise their productivity and efficiency, with the optimal use of resources and human resources development  of organization.

The professional degree from National University in Industrial Engineering, you must excel in:

• Knowledge of the principles of science and technology demand that training as an engineer.
• Emphasis on the study of industrial production systems, based on knowledge of modern technologies.
• Prepare to integrating multidisciplinary knowledge in the field of computing, Operational Research and Engineering Economic criteria in the evaluation of alternatives for making decisions on improving existing systems or implementing new investment projects.
• Social and humanistic training, which involves the analysis and understanding of the social, economic and political develop the ability to communicate clearly and convincingly and attitude to teamwork.
