Objetive

General Objetive

The main  objective of curricular program is  training up systems  engineers  with high   academic and  human quality and leadership, to contribute with their profession practice,  to the country development and the solution of computing and communications problems  in Colombia.

Specific Objetives

Promote in the future professional the spirit of research and the interdisciplinary work,  due the diversity of areas  where he must be developing his activity , in order to generate and   lead actions of transcendence trough his creativity and knowledge.

Provide to future professional  an  academic training necessary  to  be able to:

  • Plan, analyze, design, implement, administer and evaluate computing systems, of services based on these, complex systems of information and knowledge.
  • Develop mathematical models specially related  to the operations research area, and applying  it for solving  organizations problems.
  • Develop functions in systems management and informatics projects or related with these, applied to sectors  industrial, financial, educational, service, government, etc..
  • Perform actvities in advising , inspection, consulting  and audit related with computing systems or from interdisciplinary nature.
  • Perform  evaluation activities,negotiation, selection and technological transfer to hardware, software and resources in general


Program Description

The program of Systems Engineering on National University of Colombia, has been recognized among the best programs in 2008, with the high quality of granted accreditation for a term of 8 years and the Order of Higher Education and Public faith "Luis Lopez de Mesa" conferred.

With the  applied reform (November, 2008), it is answered to necessity of permanent adjustment and  actualization, that   suposes the high dinamics of the area and the availability of   methodological and technical  resources in Higher Education

It counts with a solid teaching plant for training and dedication with a high sense of  belonging   focusing its permanent efforts in the  proposed objectives in program students training.

The program has had  repeatedly  the best results  in tests guided to value the education quality, as ECAES , at institutional and individual level with three first places at national level , for every Higher Education programs evaluated it highlights also the results tradicionally obtained in events as  Programming  Marathon in which most recent version, our students obtained the 41 place among 100 finalist after a pre-selection among about 6000 teams to world level

A Curriculum on credits, current, flexible, promotes the integral education and the autonomy, the clear sense  of belonging and excellent results in various fields, of students and graduates, as well as the dedication    of teaching work, research and extension of teachers of the program, are evidence of the quality  systems engineering program and institutional strength of the National University of Colombia

Basic Information

The program has   professional  emphasis in the areas of computer systems, training and organizations systems, infrastructura of systems,  software methods and technologies , hardware and computer architecture, operations research and aplication technology, which are supported in fundamental research in mathematics, probability and statistics, natural science, economical  and administrative sciences.

The object of program study are complex systems of information and knowledge and computational systems

The graduate of Systems Engineering of National University is a professional with   development skills of mathematical models, simulation and construction of prototypes for  problems solutions , analysis and management of organizational systems of public or private sector, the design, implementation and network management and computational systems, structure and management of information systems and knowledge and aditionally, the providing advisory and consulting services in systems and informatics.

This profile is a result of  program objectives, according to Article 2 of Agreement 39 of 1992 of Academic Council, as follows:

  • Planning, analize, design, implant, manage and evaluate computational systems and services based on above actvities
  • Analize, desing, implant and manage complex systems of information and knowledge
  • Develop mathematical models specially related to operating research and apply in solution of practical problems
  • Participate in advisory activities, interventory, consulting, audit related to information systems
  • Engage in assessment, negotiation, selection and technology transfer at the level of equipment, software and resources in general.. "

The professional of Systems Engineering of National University has  occupational alternatives, in the following roles:

Developer ( planner, analizer, designer and executer) and manager in information systems and computational systems

Developer of applied models to industril. financial. educational, services, government sectors

Advisor, auditor, consultant and auditor for information and computer systems and knowledge.
Director, evaluator and advisor to technology transfer projects in areas of computer systems and communications systems
Leading implementation of solutions related to information technology and communications .

Training areas

Basic training is offered in the fundamentation component, in which are introduced and  contextualised the    engineering knowledge in its theoretical foundations of mathematics, probability and statistics, natural sciences, economic and administrative

This component consists of 48 credits.

Also called disciplinar component or professional, provides the student  the basic grammar of their profession or discipline,the main theories, methods and  practices of  Systems Engineering, whose exercise in training, research and extension will allow them integrate with a professional community or determined disciplinar

In the applied engineering, there are subjects of disciplinar component,   of optional type, the deepening and free  choice, if the student wishes to choose subjects of discipline. Such type of subjects allows the student  contextualize and / or   deepen  topics of their profession , appropriating tools and knowledge in its application.

Research

The research is the foundation of knowledge production . It developes learning processes and strengthens the university interaction with society and environment. Research must contribute to human talent training and   technical development for  solution of local problems,  regional and international

The systems engineering program of the University,   tends  to  strengthen  skills training research for    students  and promotes their involvement in activities developed by an important number of research groups,   distributed in diversed strategic themes of the area.
The program has 14 research groups, including six (6) of category A , One (1) category B, two (2) category C, two (2) are recognized and three (3) are made up  but are not registered.

 

  • The student will be able to locate his personal and university experience  in a historic context, social, economic, political, cultural, technical or scientific, according to knowledge of past , present and future.
  • The systems engineer graduated of National University, will posses a high academic quality, human and with leadership, in order to contribute to the country development towards resolving problems related to computational systems and information and telecommunications systems .

Work of Degree

Essential part of any university is to ensure the suitability and professionalism of its graduates, it shall be given effect to in the presentation, development and approval of work of degrre  or as commonly known as the "thesis".

The work of degree is designed for students can apply, deepen and bring to  scientific knowledge; it is channeling  of acquired knowledge during every studied semesters. The career curriculum takes consistency with  the work of degree. With it,  the  future professional  demonstrates be able to obtain the professional title and  is integrated to  social and productive life of the country.

Therefore, the  Engineering Faculty has taken this commitment to offer students different ways of work of degree. We expect, with helping of  academic community, they can meet their objectives and contribute to a better training of our engineers.

The proposal of  seven different ways of work of degree , it must contain the following aspects: Proposer, title, area or line of research, background and justification, formulating the problem, general and specific objectives, scope and limitations, methodology, sequence and activities to develop, schedule, resources, costs and funding sources and basic bibliography.

Work of Degree ways

Is the activity that integrates and applies the knowledge  of  different areas , stimulating the   development of related work:

  • Development  of  a  research of experimental base
  • Development of a design, redesign or construction seeking the knowledge generation or   solution of a problem

The final proposal is submitted in writing and   will be evaluated by two  juries qualifiers. The student must   support this proposal before the  public and the qualification can be approved or unapproved.

In this modality the student supplements his training and curriculum. The student  should  study three subjects  related to the graduate program of the faculty or an area related to finished  career . This method is developed maximum   during two   semesters

To enroll in graduate subjects, the student must have a  qualification average equals or greater  than 3.7 in the  career and having   studied and approved  at least one subject of     line of deepening  related to postgraduate subjects

At the ending of subjects, the student must submit a comprehensive report and perform a public  sustentation.   The postgraduate subjects must be approved with qualification equals or greater than 3.5

If the student wishes to continue the postgraduate,  and   is accepted as regular student,the studied subjects may be  approved.

Is the activity developed by a student trough his link with research institution, a local or forigen university, or a public or private organization in to perform a specific job in any area related to finished career.Is the activity developed by a student trough  linking to a  research center, a local or foreign university, or a public or private organization   to perform a specific job in any area related to finished career. Its objectives are:

  • Promote the relationship University - Business
  • Facilitate to the student the acquisition of knowledge and experience

The internship will last not less than 18 weeks, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. The control of the practice   will be made by the same director , based on partial reports to be delivered in weeks 7 and 13 of the semester and the final report which will highlight key aspects of their research or practical experience. If the concepts of the company or organization and of the director are  approved ,  the advisory committee will appoint  two juries for their final approved and public sustentation

This is an educational process where the student must transmit technological knowledge to a community, considering its participation  , in order to improve the life quality   and stimulate community development. This method will be developed in a community that needs it or that has a problem related to engineering.

The work should include the following:

  • The intervention and participation of student should be active  together with the community in order to transfer technology or to solve problems
    The student must have attitudes and skills for development of this process.

The student must submit progress reports to the Director, a critical report describing the scope of technology and the impact in this community. Finally the student should develop a booklet to the community.
