The Department of Civil and Agricultural Engineering of the National University of Colombia at Bogotá is one of the academic units with more tradition and prestige of the institution, making it a national and international icon. The Department aims to integrate its human capital with with their physical and financial resources for teaching engineering professionals in the fields of rural and urban infrastructure, qualified for the conception, design, construction, implementation and operation of infrastructure and other actions aimed for solving many problems of a low income country under the criteria of economic efficiency, environmental sustainability and social desirability and technical perspective as local, regional or national level.
The Department train professionals at a high level of technical and scientific qualifications, and develop a strong commitment to society, allowing them to stand out for their performance and leadership in various projects involving development for the benefit of the country.

The Department consists of six academic sections, through which teachers work collegially develop in each of the engineering disciplines that make up the above. The sections are: Structures and Construction, Geotechnics, Agricultural Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering and Roads and Transportation. As a fundamental part of their academic work, the Department has nine research groups that develop and encourage scientific activities in the students' interest and skills to generate new knowledge. Similarly, the Department of Civil and Agriculture Engineering is at the service of country knowledge and experience through their participation in outreach projects that can contribute effectively to the development of the country.
