DESCRIPTION


The main work of the laboratory has been designed to address aspects of hydrology, environment, hydraulics, geomorphology, geotechnics, structures, river transport and all those disciplines that deal directly with the use and management of water resources.
The Water Testing Laboratory, has an area of 5000 m2 suitable for large-scale hydraulic modeling and a pumping capacity of 200 l / s, to others in an additional area of 1000 m2 office, where it provides the university community and the public and private sectors, a Center for Research, study and Consultancy in the management and utilization of water resources with emphasis on river hydraulics and river engineering.

The work done by the laboratory take into account the new concepts of quality assurance in order to optimize the services it provides. This form is to accommodate the customer to develop projects that meet their needs and expectations, applying provisions which result in obtaining solutions, designs and services with the highest probability of success, under the regulations and quality standards.
HISTORY

The Hydraulics Laboratory Test is managed by the National University - Faculty of Engineering since 1995. His story begins in 1954, when it was administered and operated by consulting firms and foreign contracted directly by the Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of Transport today. Has had an ongoing activity since its creation, getting a great experience in the themes it develops. This experience has been passed down through several generations of engineers and has allowed a significant proportion of them have kept their relationship for most of the time, regardless of the entity that has operated.

El laboratorio posee una infraestructura adecuada para trabajos de hidráulica fluvial. El Estado ha hecho inversiones importantes en el mismo lo cual requiere que permanentemente esté en actividad y en ejecución de trabajos para los cuales fue construido.

El laboratorio administrado por la Universidad se ha constituido en una institución que va más allá de unas instalaciones adecuadas para construir modelos físicos. Está dedicada a desarrollar labores de investigación, estudios y asesorías en el área de la ingeniería fluvial, marítima y portuaria. Presta servicios de cooperación y apoyo técnico a diferentes entidades públicas y de economía mixta a través de convenios interadministrativos. Adicionalmente ha efectuado investigaciones propias en el campo de la hidráulica fluvial con el fin de encontrar nuevas tecnologías para aplicarlas a los trabajos que desarrolla.

Durante el periodo comprendido entre septiembre de 1995 y agosto de 1997 el Laboratorio atendió satisfactoriamente más de 70 proyectos para el Ministerio de Transporte de Colombia.
A partir de 1999, la Universidad ha efectuado diferentes convenios con la Corporación Autónoma Regional del Río Grande de la Magdalena - Cormagdalena y atendido proyectos en varios sitios del río Magdalena.

The Hydraulics Laboratory Test activities are academic and teaching practices and student internships, research, project assistance as Master's thesis, and Extension Service, local and national projects.
SERVICES

The Hydraulic Testing Laboratory, is the ability to provide the following services to the community.

Studies and research of the hydraulic behavior, sedimentological and morphological rivers and coasts:

Studies and research of the hydraulic parameters, sedimentological and morphological having to do with the physical behavior of the rivers and coasts and estuaries further.

Application of research to problems related to the following topics: Erosion and stabilization of river banks, sedimentation of the waterway and river docks, river navigation, Stability of river works, environmental impact studies and environmental management plans.

Planning, analysis, design and adequacy of navigation channels as well as works and complementary structures.

Hydraulic works:

In this study area, either with the help of physical or mathematical models and depending on the problem behavior: Structures and works in river navigation projects (docks, locks, spurs, piling, sheet piling, sediment traps, dredging, closure structures of arms, signaling structures, etc..), Structures of works of marginal protection (perched, coatings with gabions, geotextile and bolsacretos, mattresses Dutch colchagaviones, colchacretos, piloting, etc..), Structures of work and flood control (dams, dikes, bolsacretos structures, causeways, etc., Different techniques for covering banks in river banks.

Studies and designs of ports:

The laboratory is able to develop studies and designs of river and sea ports, involving the following:

  • Diagnosis: determination of freight and passenger movements, routes connecting the ports to other modes of transport, determination of port capacity, identification of the relationship between ports and their surroundings.
  • Planning: efficient allocation of port equipment, services, administration and operation of ports, connections with other modes of transport and capacity.
  • Design: port facilities and access, infrastructure, docks, hydraulic systems, sanitary, electrical, structural and architectural.

Monitoring of hydraulic works:
