The history of the Department of Civil Engineering and its graduates is closely linked with the trajectory of the Faculty. The latter had its origins in the School of the Army Corps of Engineers, organized under the government of Don Juan Corral in Medellin in 1814. Its first director was wise Francisco José de Caldas, who was then a Colonel of Engineers. With the ride of your head to Santa Fe and the campaign of the Spanish conquest, the school was short-lived.
Under the first administration of General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, the Military College was created that was oriented towards the training of officers and engineers of Civil Engineers.
He began work on January 2, 1848 under the direction of General of Independence, Jose Maria and Joaquin M. Ortega Barriga and collaboration with distinguished teachers such as Don Lino de Pombo, Colonel Antonio R. Ramon Narvaez and Azuola War, later engineers and lawyers. "The main topics are arithmetic, algebra, geometry, speculative and practical, straight and spherical trigonometry, analytic geometry, conic sections and systematically dealt with math, geometry described and their applications to the shadows, perspective, machinery and cutting of stones, Calculus differential and Integral Mechanical, Machinery, cosmography, Civil Architecture, Water, Roads, Bridges and Sidewalks." |
From the standpoint of military fortifications lecturing campaigns, mines, military bridges, attack and defense of positions and strongholds, construction of the branch of engineering and materials, equipment and artillery service, tactics, topography, time budget and expenses, gymnastics, fencing, riding and swimming, etc.. At this stage graduated two military engineers and a group of civil engineers among whom are: Ramon Ponce de Leon, Indalecio Liévano, Juan Nepomuceno González Vázquez, Tomás Cuenca, Rafael Pombo, who did not exercise the profession.
The coup de Melo, April 17, 1854, interrupted the work of the Military College.
General Herran, in 1855, defended before Congress inútilemte the existence of this now famous site. Following the triumph of the revolution Mosquera, and the consequent taking of Bogota, this leader, who always had a special interest in the institution, issued a decree on August 24, 1861, which was restored by the Military College and also Polytechnic created for engineering education, these institutions which were later incorporated into the National University. The Faculty of Engineering, then, had its origins at this time.
On July 4, 1866, Congress directed the issuance of certificates of suitability of the engineers of the country, creating the Corps, as an agency of the Government, which had a director and secretary and two assistants for each of the states (the then United States of Colombia). This body was organized by the Government on 30 August of that year.
After the coup in May 1867, Law 66 of September 22 of that pampering year was the National University of Colombia, the United States and within the Faculty of Engineering, which put an end to military school . This ability works in the Old Cloister of Santa Clara, where he is now the School of Fine Arts. 1881 to 1884 the School of Engineering worked under the Ministry of War. Then follow azaroza few years of life, linked to the frequent wars that ravaged the country until 1885 when, under the direction of Don Rafael Espinosa Escallón, the Faculty was finally organized. From this year until 1900 was under the guidance of engineers Azuola Ramon Guerra, Manuel Ponce de León, Julio Garavito Armero and Rafael Torres Mariño.
"War of the Thousand Days" practically interrupted the work of the institution. in the year 1900 some friends of the wise Garavito, with him as Director, organized particularly the Engineering School, which operated on the premises of the Astronomical Observatory. From 1902, the year of termination of the war, the faculty worked without interruption, under the guidance of eminent patriots and men of study among those who stand Tango Alberto Borda, Francisco J. House, Victor F. Caro, Pedro Uribe Gauguin, Julio Carrizosa Valenzuela, Jorge Acosta Villaveces, Dario Rozo and Gabriel Camacho Duram. Created the National University of Colombia by Law 68 of December 7, 1935 as an independent legal person and relative economic independence, was for the title of the Chief Rector of the University General and the Directors of Dean of the Faculties.
From 1902 to 1910 worked at the palace after the race. In 1910 he built edifición transfer to 10 th Street to Race 5 ª. From 1931 to 1940, which translates to the University, worked in the old building of the Central Technical Institute. In 1965, 59 of the Agreement by University Council established the Academic Division of the National University and the set along with the general organization of its academic units were: Dean, Dean, Secretary, Director of Department, Directors of Institutes, Heads Academic Sections. At that time there was regulated Race and was the department responsible for preparing educational programs suitable for their purposes, the guidelines outlined by the curriculum of the Faculty.
The Department of Civil Engineering had its beginnings with the sections Building, Structures, Geotechnics, Hydraulics, Sanitary Engineering and Transportation. The pre-school were approved by the Department Director and sent for consideration by the Board through the Dean. He also had the resons of teaching for your scientific field. The section chief coloboraba with the Director of the normal development of academic programs, annual evaluations of teachers teaching in the section presenting the Director of the Department.
This professional approach that the Department of Career assimilated with the "limitation in the design and generation of new knowledge are inherent to the necessary restriction involving the professional curriculum," was amended in 1980 to the formulation of the General Statutes of the University Nacional de Colombia, 124 Agreement because, inter alia, the numerical growth and academic performance of the University in areas such as the expansion of graduate programs, development of research and advisory services to non-university level. 124 The agreement resolved the dichotomy between the academic and administrative. Within the conception of the Faculty, presented General Statute definitions of "Curriculum" (undergraduate and graduate) and "Operating Unit".
The address of a curriculum (Curriculum Department) is responsible for the proper conduct of this, the direction of an operating unit (Directorate of Department) is working with the Board and Dean in the administration of human resources (teachers and technicians) and resources of equipment and materials necessary for the execution of research plans, teaching and university extension. Under the agreement 10 of 2000 regulates the organizational structure of schools in Academic Basic Units of Administrative Management (UBGAA) and the Department of Civil Engineering became the "Department of Civil Engineering and Agricultural" grouping within the engineering professions civil and agricultural engineering in their undergraduate and graduate, teachers of agricultural engineering degree they become art of the new Academic Section of Agriculture. |
