Management of Informations Systems - Presentation

Presentation

New business models in companies are supported more with Information Technologies (IT). Large series of innovations, changes from the Internet to wireless networks, digital phones and cable systems are transforming continuously the business world. Computers have evolved from rudimentary processing machines, fifty years ago, to powerful and multifunctional laptops nowadays. This breakthrough has transformed, to a large extent, how companies are managing their processes, how people are organizing their work place and work load.

Because of this, some challenges arose from the new structure of business world:

At firm level, some issues to deal with are for instance new organizational structures, implementation of strategies based on information technologies like networked companies, virtual organization (market places, e-commerce).

At group/team or individual level, some issues like making good decisions, organizing individual and collective knowledge, defining conditions required to work in virtual teams and building collaborative work procedures, among others, can be addressed.

Business cases and management readings are used to illustrate relevant course issues. The students will be involved to consider, in depth, the effect of information technology on a specific business setting. The class structure will be a combination of lectures, class discussions, cases discussions, workshops on specific software with PC.
