IV INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING SEMINAR

Universidad Nacional de Colombia
July 6th – 30th, 2010

General Information

The fourth edition of the International Engineering Seminar (2010) will bring professors from prestigious universities around the world to share their unique teaching methods and present new developments and technologies that they are currently practicing in their home universities.  Also, the Seminar is designed to strengthen institutional relations between the two Universities and put the visiting professors in contact with our students to establish professional links and exchanges.  This will provide cross-cultural and academic opportunities for students that have not had the opportunity to leave Colombia.

This fourth edition will consist of 11 graduate courses that undergraduate students can enroll in as electives.  The courses will be held between July 6th and July 30th during the inter-semester session and divided into four week sessions taught by international visiting professors and professors from Universidad Nacional and other Colombian universities.   In addition, a seperate 25 hour course will be held between June 28th and July 2nd in the  Leticia branch of Universidad Nacional in the Amazon.

We hope that with this event we can immerse a group of students in a academic setting to improve their English ability; to learn about cultures and countries; and to compare content and teaching methodologies from different academic perspectives.

Most of the courses will be taught in English  by the foreign professor and in Spanish by the Colombian professor, however, one course will be instructed in French.  The courses will consist of 64 instructional hours broken down as follows: 4 hours per day, 4 days per week for 4 weeks. Due to the intensive nature of the course schedule, each student will only be able to enroll in one course offered during the series. Undergraduate students who selected the graduation requirement cannot use these courses to complete that requirement.  These courses are offered as graduate courses; however, 50% of the spaces will be reserved for undergraduate students that have completed at least 70% of the credits of their program.  The students of any UN College of Engineering  program will be able to take the courses they desire.
